2021.10.16 22:24 indigofighter Weird overtone on gretsch USA custom bell brass.

I recently got a Gretsch USA custom bell brass. I wanted a snare sound that was similar to Metallicas black album. But there is this weird overtone when I hit it. Hard or soft playing its there, I tried an old remo controled sound on it and it's not any better. My next idea is to get an evans dry or a powerstroke 77 head. But I'm not sure if that would work. So my question is how can I get rid of that weird overtone.
Yes I'm pretty good at tuning and I am using dampeners.

2021.10.16 22:24 _______myworld Are those less fortunate artists doomed to struggle? L'art pour l'art, but is it really worth it?

The ingrained "starving artist" conception has been passed down through generations. I play classical instruments ever since I was 7 of age. Some considered me as a pro, some labelled me as advanced, some amateur, some see me as merely student, so what I am? I'm not entirely sure. For the most parts, my own incapability and incompetency were still things that i struggle with the most, where I was constantly comparing myself with those gifted, young musicians. No matter how hard I tried, no matter how committed and eager I was, it's destined to be fruitless. But... was it solely me after all this while? And I can't help but constantly contemplating, are those less fortunate artists doomed to struggle? Is such notion deemed to be something inevitable?
I don't consider myself as unfortunate, especially with my parents sacrificing, supporting and backing me up thoroughly my entire life. Unlike most parents, who plead with their beloved child to pursue something labelled as “practical” major than fine art, music or dance. My father, who owns a MBA qualification, doesn't want his children to have a "proper" education. What considered as a "proper" education in nowadays society is STEM; if not STEM, then social science; if not social science, at least pedagogy. My father is a classical music enthusiast who is obsessed with Maxim Vengerov and Julia Fischer. I'm able to recall how displeased he gets whenever the answer he received from his "What would you like to be when you grow up?" question weren't "Classical musician". I'd say lawyer, doctor, scientist, "No, be a violinist!" he demanded. "Fortunately", I actually grew up having impetuous enthusiasm in classical music. My parents, especially my dedicated father, used to commute back and forth on a 1 and a half journey for 3 to 4 times per week to send my sister and I for classical music and german lessons, workshops, sometimes ensembles and youth orchestra rehearsals. Never once I heard them express their dissatisfaction, even when stuck in a 2 hours traffic jam, even when the fees got unreasonably expensive, no single complaints.
Those teachers that I encountered were mostly Europeans, specifically, Europeans working in my home country symphony orchestra. Growing up in Southeast Asia, my homeland has one international standard, world-class symphony orchestra with well trained musicians, which is approx. 2 hours away from our home, depends on the traffic of course. Remember how I mentioned that it's considered a world-class orchestra, most musicians were extremely well-paid (source: https://www.malaysiakini.com/news/82794), so it's apparent that lessons are very expensive. Realising how expensive my lessons were, I have consequently turned into an individual who constantly seek for instant gratification, in this case, whenever I felt like I didn't learn anything from them, I find someone else. So i was constantly switching from one teacher to another. There's one time while one of my teacher and her husband (both musicians) were pressurising my parents to purchase a new instrument from them that couldn't suits me any better, "Most Chinese are rich!" I can still vividly remember how hearing these words with my own ears. So there it is, where one lesson per week was inadequate, where my 14k Euros violin and 1,2k Euro bow are never up to the standard, where I was required to have lesson with their friends/colleagues to be better educated and enlightened, where my previous teachers all suck and their own teaching is contrarily the only right way and the best, where they had to place their hands on inappropriate parts for the sake of learn and "feel" the music better, where they were never satisfied and I was never good enough. Now, looking back at my personal experience, most European teachers I've encountered are merely trying have financial gains off asian students they consider "rich".
Disclaimers, I met a wonderful European teacher who I consider important and have great respect till this day. His constant support and encouragement have given me the confidence to apply for four conservatories in Germany, and I failed them all, where most professors advised me to have masterclasses with them where I could barely afford. "It's ok." I told myself. Germany offered free education, it's competitive and I have zero connection. Establishing connection is important for the sake of opportunities, "I have to do it fast, I have to act now". Commuting from Weimar to Hamburg, I was trying to figure out my next plan. I had a short stop in Dresden, I instantly wrote to a local renowned violin professor without having a second thoughts. "He had the same teacher as Maxim Vengerov. He could help me." Upon meeting, Professor M. gave me his word that I will be well-prepared for auditions by having a regular 3 to 4 months lesson with him. And this led to the decision of spending the rest of my summer in Dresden.
Growing up in a collectivistic culture that tends to have high acceptance over social reticence, my susceptibility to conform to people of superior social status can sometimes adversely affect my decision-making ability. Throughout the summer in Dresden, the humiliation and discomfort resulted from his inappropriate behaviours have increasingly become ordeal to endure. Culture differences and misunderstandings were my initial thoughts, I therefore chose to dismiss such perception and prioritised my goals. Nevertheless, inappropriate touches, leers and remarks became growingly unbearable and manifested apparent signs of sexual harassment. Additionally, I was being pressurised to invest in a 18, 000 euros violin which I couldn’t afford. I have insufficient proof to substantiate those aforementioned allegations, I felt mistreated. I inevitably had the perception of how both europeans and musicians are inherently exploiters, deemed to have high sense of superiority and possess a persistent quid pro quo mentality.
As you can see, I wasn't unfortunate. I had my mom working her ass off to financially support me and paid off those fees, I had my dad dedicatedly commuting back and forth, 2 hours per trip, and I practiced. I practiced day and night, mostly 8 hours each day. Now that I'm a STEM major, (perhaps it's the same in the STEM field, something that I will find out later on in my journey), i look back. I prioritise music so much that I had zero education albeit living in an era where information is decentralised. And for a coloured person without education, I made myself susceptibility to manipulation, and eventually exploitation. So what about the actual unfortunate artist? What about those who love the process of creating art so immensely, they're willing to create art for art's sake albeit living on minimum expenses or even at the poverty line? There comes "the starving artist mentality" where people nowadays considered as a cliché. Let me tell you from a former, classically trained musician perspective, it's real, it's a vicious cycle where the gifted artist serves the audience while the rest are waiting in their practice room for them to be discovered and for success to knock on their door; where the unethical, often too renowned and well-respected artists are opportunists that seek for vulnerable individuals to exploit them for nothing but personal gains. As asserted by one of the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin and The Juilliard School graduate Violinist Sumina Studer (source= https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vVof4_aS8m4), music education fails to teach musicians on ways live off of the art they created in the 21st era where social media and digital marketing are so prominent, instead, we were taught to how to be flawless and perfect. "Too sharp!", "Too flat!", "This part is supposed to be soft!", "Your vibrato is horrible!", "You are too old to pursue music and be a professional classical musician.", "Your playing is unprofessional", "6 hours practice is way too less for you.", "You will never get in a conservatory/win a competition/being accepted to an orchestra with such playing".
Humans are not designated to be perfect. In an environment where perfectionism is taken to extremes, where criticisms are normalised and where the vulnerable is commonly being exploited, are those less fortunate artists doomed to struggle? In my honest opinion, yes. L'art pour l'art, but is it really worth it? Maybe, but to avoid exploitation, education is the key, the information now is decentralised where myriads of free education platforms are available, educate yourself. Enlighten me your thoughts and share me your experiences. I care and I want to hear.

I’ve had my green cheek conure for around 6 years and at some point her ankle band fell off. Her and I have moved once so there is really no way to recover it. I understand it has something to do with the breeder?? I’m not sure. Does her not having it matter in the long term?

2021.10.16 22:24 newday_newaccount- Organic Portals (NPCs)

Bits of pure spirit energy (which we can call "souls") are being recycled inside of human incarnations; this spiritual energy is food for entities in the astral realm, who prefer not to be seen. These entities modified human DNA overtime; the goal was to create a being that expelled as much of this energy as possible, without realizing that this powerful spiritual energy was inside of them - and I'd say they did a damn fine job!
This energy is expelled from us in the form of emotions (energy in motion). Now then... Not all humans have this eternal spirit energy inside of them. There are more humans alive right now than there are souls caught in this reincarnation cycle. A human being does not need a soul in order to operate, and humans without souls are known as "organic portals" (or the more derogatory "NPCs").
Organic portals mirror the souled humans and they can be indistinguishable from each other. Often times the only way to identify a portal is to be very close to them, or live with them for a long time. Anyone can be an organic portal. A married couple can have children with souls and children without. Maybe your dad is an organic portal, but you are not. The souls are placed into available babies as they are readily available to be reincarnated. We can only speculate how much of the population are "soulless"; some say less than 10%, others say 50%, some even think 90% of people are portals.
The easiest way to understand organic portals is by looking at people who are sociopathic, psychotic, or true narcissistic personality disorder. You can think of these people as "defective" organic portals, because they expose themselves and get caught. They have no empathy or compassion, and they mirror the emotional states of others, in order to manipulate them for personal gain. The idea is that many people are mirroring emotions, but most portals are well balanced socially and don't get caught.
Keep in mind that it can be dangerous to think this way and place people into groups of those with souls and those without. Remember that we are all human beings. The belief is that portals have more of a "hivemind" type of spirit, like animals. They are of the Earth, and when they die their spiritual essence is a raindrop falling back into the pond.
What purpose do portals serve? Think of NPCs in a videogame; they are a necessary element to many good games. They make reality more real and they keep the souls more trapped. They aspire towards material goals and many of them live the "correct" way and find successful career paths, with a good looking, functional family in the suburbs. They fall in line with what the reptilians in control want. They are the mainstream, and they are exposing themselves currently with their seemingly programmed impulse to get vaccinated, even when their loved ones tell them not too. This helps give the impression that "everyone is doing it".
A common experience people have is sleep paralysis involving the presence of dark sinister entities. This is catching them in the act of harvesting your energy - fear is their favorite flavor. If you have experienced this then you are most likely not an organic portal. If you have never had a supernatural or spiritual experience, then... well, you know. ..

2021.10.16 22:24 Butterflychunks Call of Duty Botched the Anticheat Already

Let me start out by saying that it’s great we’re getting an anticheat that might actually work. I believe in the technology. Machine learning models mixed with kernel software will be extremely great at detecting outliers that are very likely cheaters with probably 99.9% accuracy. However, the announcement of the anticheat software has completely screwed the game for the time being.
Why leave three whole weeks between announcement and launch? When you announce an anticheat system that will ban all current and future cheaters permanently, what do you think the cheaters are gonna do?
Every cheater still in warzone knows they’re probably getting banned in 3 weeks, so they’re all going rampant. I got into four rebirth matches and three iron trials matches in a row where there were several cheaters we had to deal with yesterday.
Expect things to be hellish until the release of vanguard. Cheaters are on their farewell splurge tour 🙄 thanks Activision.
